Well this past week has been a week of Up's and Down's. As a missionary, I am truly seeing my strengths and my weaknesses. This week I have been working really hard at opening my mouth. D&C 28:16 is what I am focusing on. (I challenge you all to read it and see how you can apply it to your lives!) I get too scared to speak during lessons at times. This past week, we have had two TRC investigators and many lessons. meaning that they are investigators that come to the MTC to learn from us greenie missionaries. It is QUITE an experience. ;)
This week I have been praying for the Spirit to help me teach and to not be afraid to speak out. I have been studying this in PMG and my personal scripture study. I came across the scripture I shared with you above and I worked hard at applying it. Well, we were teaching an investigator named Nathan. He is actually a non-member and had given us some background on why he was there. It was very interesting to get to know him and pray for help to know what he really needs. He is really into biology and philosophy and he told us the other day how he explained evolution to two Tongan missionaries recently. They had not known what to say to him. We prayed for help. He hasn't been able to open his heart up to the things he is being taught by the spirit. He told us a story of how he had a difficult life growing up and thinks he doesn't need God to help him get through experiences. What was really cool, was the night before I was struggling with a similar situation. I had worried that I wasn't progressing as I should. My companions are my angels and helped me realize that I am doing the best I can. And that I don't need a huge experience to know that my Heavenly Father and my Savior love me. I just have to pray. I did. And I got a answer that made me realize I am loved and it was amazing. So I got to share that with Nathan, and yes... I got emotional and he did too. Then we shared the scripture 1 Nephi 21:14-16 saying that Christ has not forgotten you. You are literally engraved in His palms. We bore testimony that Heavenly Father really loves Nathan and all you need to do is pray. Nathan then told us: "When you said that, I felt something come into my brain... and then it turned into a peaceful feeling inside." OKAY SPIRIT!!!! We told him that was the spirit. He was so excited ever since to learn more. It was a great experience for me and for him.
We also got another new investigator... SHE IS GREAT!!! Her name is Anne and she is totally loving the gospel! we taught her about the Atonement and the spirit prompted us to share Alma 7:11-13. She read that and loved it. She absorbed every detail and was loving it. At the end of the lesson, I got a prompting to ask her to "soft commit" meaning to ask her if she would be baptized. I prayed for help to know what to say. Then this happened: We were at the close of our lesson. And then, seriously, the Spirit spoke right through me and said: "Anne, we know that you are such an incredible daughter of God. If you read and prayed and got an answer, would you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized?" She looked at me all stunned. I couldn't believe I had really asked that. She then said: I totally would want to be baptized! ANSWERED PRAYER. I know that when we are struggling with something, God can help us. Our Savior knows what we are going through and through the Atonement, we can be stronger. Ether 12:27 "I will make weak things become strong unto them."
I love you all and pray for you daily! I hope things are going great and you are doing everything you can to have a closer relationship with your Heavenly Father and Your Savior Jesus Christ.
Love,
